CH 12 Vietnam War: Bringing the Battlefield into the American

The american people vividly expierenced the vietnam war from thier own homes. The american public saw the horrors of war in a way that was never before released. the reason or this is because there were great journalist putting out informtion that it felt that people should know. Besides televeison newspapers were also relasing important information. the Washingington Post had the Pentagon Papers which released classifed data on the vietnam war because it flt it was important for the american public to know.

               News media was setting the agenda on the vietnam war. the more that wasout out there the more people wanted to pull out of vietnam. finally in 1975 america pulled out of the country of vietnam without winning the war agiant the vietcong. Americas have had enough of the war and seeing soldiers die. if it wasnt for news media america migh have stayed invietnam longer.

Juilian assange edito of wikileaks is doing today what he feels is the same as the Washington Pos did during te vietnam war. he released top secret goverment intellegence given to him by top goverment officials because the goverment officals felt like americans should know what was going on in the war in afghanastan. these goverment officals were afraid of loosing thier jobs so they decided to realese the information through wikileaks. julian asssange is a true  modern day journalist because he tries to give aerican citizens the right infrmation to make correct choices to hey can live free lives just like the the washington pos did during the vietnam war.

Ch.8 Father Coughlin: Fomenting Anti-Semitism via the radio

At what point is the limit of extreme views that we as a society can listen too with out being to engulfed or overhelmed. Should we belive whats on the radio and follow the opinion of those speaking to us. we as an audiance need to understand the dangers of not being media literate and following the wrong people.

Father Coughlin is pictured on the right

          During the 1930's and 40's the radio waves were being filled with the views of father Charles Edward Coughlin. He was priest who was an anti semetic and blamed the jewish people for the ill of society.  from the moment he stpped in father ouglin enjoyed great success and quickly gaine a fellowship.  Alot of his success came from the fact that the country was in midst of the great depression and alot of people were looking for answers and scape goats. In the picture above is an example  how popular the radio priest had become because he made the front cover of the times magazine.

Father Couglin anti semetic veiws were his bread and butter when he went on the radio. in the early years of his radio show the radio priest based he segments on the economy but this was just an eventual spring board to the world of politics. father coughlin was so anti semetic that he supported the nazi idology against the jewish. father coughlin rallied his followers to phsically attack jewish people and thier communities. eventually though he had gotten to extreme for mainstream media at the time and was dropped by radio staions all over the united states.

Father coughlin extreme views and fellowship can be compared to growth of Rush limbaugh in the 2000's. Rush Limbaugh has a very conservative republican view. He like father Coughlin gained alot of popularity by stating his views on his radio show. rush limbaugh is an opinion leader who was so much followed that his show was at one point the most listened to in the united states.rush limbaugh always had a very conservative view and would always attribute that in his show.

Always listening to one view and believing it can cripple a society. in modern days we are having a difficult time because media is being domintated by one view and thats becuase the people and corpartion broadcasting the news just want to make money and dont care about a market place of ideas in which people can make proper decicions in thier lives. In the 1930's it was people trying to make sense of the geat depression ad in the 2000s it people trying to make the right decisions in a post sept 11 world and also an economy that has also crashed.
